about
OK, sure, pirates from the Golden Age of Pirates were typically the scum of the Earth; we get that. But people found their way to piracy via various paths, and not all were psychopaths. Surely, at least some of them had their sentimental moments? When they weren't stealing and murdering, that is . . . .

Sea Shanties
Music and lyrics by Steve Parmelee
We stand on the deck and we squint at the sea,
And we watch for a sail to appear.
We spot one and then the captain says “Arrr,”
And the men all give out a big cheer.
With sabers and pistols and cannons that fire,
Merchantmen don’t have a prayer.
So shiver me timbers and just give a shout,
Cuz who needs a fight that is fair.
But then in the evening we talk quite low,
Telling our stories and shedding some tears.
Singing sea shanties of home sweet home;
Singing of loves we have known.
We close up the gap and we raise the black flag,
Our boarding hooks ready to fly.
With knives in our teeth we jump on her deck,
And we see who’s the first one to die.
Chorus
We come from all lands, all countries and places,
Some have reputations, and some are disgraces,
We all sail as one, no shame in our faces,
We all sail,
We all sail,
We all sail as one.
We fill her with powder and set her on fire,
No witnesses left alive.
We sail back to shore to piratical friends,
It seems one more day we survive.

instrumentation, often in a quirky way, to support lyrics about quirky subject matter. Quirky people (real and fictional), quirky emotions, quirky events, quirky things, quirky norms and outliers, quirky observations, and, well, you probably get the idea....more
